About CBH

Country Bird Holdings Limited (CBH) is an agricultural group comprising of:

• Integrated poultry and stockfeed business operations in South Africa trading as Supreme and Nutri Feeds;
• Poultry breeding and stockfeed operations in the southern Africa region trading as Ross Africa and Master Farmer;
• A South African red meat abattoir and trading operation.

The company distributes its animal feed products through a network of 280 outlets in South Africa, as well as exports to Botswana, Lesotho, and Namibia. In addition, it is involved in the production and sale of day-old broilers and hatching eggs in Botswana and Zambia. CBH is the third largest poultry producer in the country, and the largest poultry exporter.

The requirement

Initially, CBH utilised spreadsheets for its monthly reporting and planning process. This however incurs obvious risks. As can be expected from a growing company like CBH, these spreadsheets increased in size and became cumbersome and complex. CBH started looking for a consolidation software tool that would improve integrity by creating one version of the “truth”, limiting manual input and ultimately human error. The system had to provide standard templates and reports, have the ability to interface with Syspro, include drill down capabilities, incorporate currency conversion and most importantly assist CBH in performing more time effective consolidations which include the automation of inter-company eliminations and inter-group journals.

The solution

CBH implemented Finnivo for monthly reporting and budgeting, covering Comprehensive Income, Statement of Financial Position, Inter-company eliminations and additional disclosure schedules. Finnivo was used in parallel with their existing process for one month’s reporting by Head Office, after, which it was rolled out to the business units to replace their existing Excel reporting process. Finnivo will also be utilised for CBH statutory and interim year-end Reporting processes.

The result

CBH have achieved an integrated end-to-end monthly and budgeting consolidation solution, used by all the divisions within the group. The Finnivo solution assisted CBH in attaining a stable reporting platform, improved control, increased transparency and tighter timescales.
